SHORT COURSES
Advanced Photography WHEN: 24 August 2010 COST: $660pp (inc. GST) This short course will run 6.00pm to 9.00pm every Tuesday for 6 weeks and is aimed towards film and digital SLR owners (and pro-sumer compact cameras) who already have a grasp of the fundamentals of photography, such as shutter speeds, aperture and ISO. The course covers a variety of topics to help improve your eye for subject matter, composition and lighting, while also learning about equipment and employment opportunities. Participants are required to provide their own digital camera for the course. The College has film camera kits available for short term hire to students that wish to gain experience in shooting film. Topics include portraiture, landscape photography, large format photography, black and white, studio lighting, films, filters and product shots. Please contact the College for a brochure.
Prop & Model Making WHEN: TBD COST: $715 (inc. GST) This short course will run for 8 weeks and will incorporate a Unit of Competency from the Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media (CUEPRP501A - Conceive, develop and realise props designs). Students who successfully complete the course will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for this Unit. The course will be conducted two evenings a week between 6pm and 9pm by Gary Sherline and is open to both local and international students. Gary's credits include prop and model making work on PETER PAN and HOUSE OF WAX, and is the only course of its kind offered in Australia. His work on GHOST SHIP will form the basis of discussion for the short course and will include practical demonstrations with various materials and techniques. Screen Story & The Hero's Journey WHEN: Saturday 6th March and Sunday 7th March 2010 COST: $165pp (inc. GST) per course or $265pp (inc. GST) if attending both courses Screen Story Workshop This one day intensive but entertaining workshop teaches you to distinguish between screenplays with a strong potential and those that are just a fun read. Do you really know what the ‘3-act-structure’ stands for? The workshop is packed with dozens of clips from recent and classic movies and at the end of the day you have a better understanding of story than McKee will ever teach you. Whether you are a Writer, Director, Producer, Actor or just starting your filmmaking journey, we will put you ahead of the game with examples of success and failure from the real world. The Hero's Journey This workshop shows you how the Hero’s Journey works for any film genre. It teaches you how to enrich the traditional Three-Act Structure using the twelve journey stages within a three-act structure. Finally, it will prove how the Hero’s Journey works on every level, from the story, over the sequence to the scene. A solid understanding of this popular theory will help you build a successful career in screenwriting. Using examples from CASABLANCA, STAR WARS to THE LIVES OF OTHERS and RATATOUILLE, this workshop proves how the Hero’s Journey’s story stages are present in all great films of the past thirty years.
Digital Video Production WHEN: Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th August 2010 COST: $330pp (inc. GST) Learn the basics of correctly operating a digital video camera (both standard and high definition), in addition to recording quality sound, controlling your lighting and understanding the editing process. This comprehensive workshop is designed for videographers who plan to operate their own video production business, shoot a documentary or short film, or simply want to improve their home movie skills.
16mm Filmmaking WHEN: Sunday 2nd May 2010 COST: $195pp (inc. GST) This intensive workshop is for slightly more advanced filmmakers who plan to shoot their next project on film. The course commences with a look at film stocks, lenses and the workings of a motion picture camera, before advancing to light meter operation and contrast ratios. You will work with an 16mm Arri SR2 camera and gain a variety of new skills that only comes with the discipline of shooting on film.
Photography for Beginners WHEN: Sunday 22nd August 2010 COST: $125pp (inc. GST) A beginners course in both film and digital photography for people who are considering photography as a career, or just want to take better pictures. Covering technology from the little happy-snap digital camera to the 35mm SLR film camera, this course covers a variety of topics, including composition, lighting and white balance .
Premiere Pro Editing WHEN: Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th May 2010 COST: $360pp (inc. GST) Limited to class of five students A workshop for people who have little or no previous non-linear editing experince. After a short introduction to file management, your tutor will guide you through the Premiere workspace, the capture window, basic effects and transitions, creating titles and basic audio mixing. You will complete a short finished project and export to DVD with a menu.
Make-Up WHEN: Please register your interest COST: $110pp (inc. GST) This workshop is designed for anyone who would like to improve their make-up applying skills. After an introduction to a variety of techniques you will be able to attend your next casting call, audition, photo shoot or interview with confidence, knowing that you have put your best face forward. Remember, your face is the first thing people see. Learn how to turn a natural daytime look into a glamorous evening look. Enhancing your features with highlighting and shadowing and basic film and television make-up application. Affordable product will be available to purchase from your instructor after the workshop.
